On Saturday June 20 Rugby’s greatest prize, the Webb Ellis Cup, will visit Galway city as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.

Launching on June 10, 100 days to go to the opening match, the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour will travel through Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England before arriving at Twickenham Stadium on September 18 ahead of the Opening Ceremony.

As part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, Connacht Rugby will host an itinerary around Galway city. From 13:00 until 14:00, the Trophy will be on display on Shop Street, near the Spanish Arch, for shoppers and passers-by to get photographs taken. From 15:30 until 17:00, the Trophy Tour will make a grassroots club visit to Galwegians RFC, Dublin Road, from 3.30pm until 5pm. The visit is open to the public.

“We are delighted to host the West of Ireland leg of the Trophy Tour in picturesque Galway. Connacht Rugby invites you to come and see, and have your picture taken with, the Webb Ellis Cup on Shop Street at lunchtime or in Galwegians RFC in the afternoon. Who knows, maybe in October our very own Robbie Henshaw will lift the Trophy in his Irish jersey!” said Deirdre O’Connell of Connacht Rugby.

The journey throughout the UK and Ireland aims to engage fans and give them the opportunity to build unforgettable memories as part of their own Rugby World Cup 2015 story.

Rugby is at the heart of the Trophy Tour engaging with over 100 Rugby clubs, organisations and Rugby festivals, from grassroots to elite. In addition Host Cities, Match Venues, community and legacy programmes, sports events, stakeholder visits, Worldwide Partner activations and iconic landmarks will feature as part of the Trophy Tour with over 300 events programmed across the 100 day continuous tour.

With less than four months to go, the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour across the UK and Ireland will create hundreds of opportunities for fans to see the Webb Ellis Cup and tell their Rugby story as they countdown to their own Tournament experience.
