BTWShiells, Northern Ireland’s largest commercial property firm, will be kicking off a Summer of sport next month with one of the Province’s most popular local sporting events, the BTWShiells Tag Rugby Charity Tournament.

The charity challenge which will take place on Saturday 9th June at one of Ulster’s leading rugby clubs, Harlequins, is attracting teams from right across the province as well as Scotland – all ready to battle for the sporting honours in an event which is celebrated for its craic as well as its sporting kudos.

And the rugby is very far from being a male preserve: this year a record number of women will be lining up for the challenge, proving that Tag rugby is now an exciting summer sporting activity played by both men and women.

Looking forward to the event, Keith Shiells from BTWShiells said: “This is our fourth charity tag tournament and to date we have raised more than £15,000 for various local charities. This year our chosen charity is Action MS and we are confident that our company donation, combined with the generosity of the teams and their supporters, will ensure a substantial sum will be raised for this very worthy cause.

“It’s not just about the action on the pitch for our Tag Day is famous for being something of an outdoor party. We’ll be providing activities to suit all age groups, from Mr Fun and his face painters and a bouncy castle to the Panama jazz band for those who prefer to chill out and soak up the atmosphere!

“The host for the day is well known Cool FM DJ and Action MS Youth Ambassador, Connor Philips, who will be overseeing and encouraging all the teams during the afternoon.”

Ann Walker, Chief Executive of Action MS said:

Action MS is delighted to be the beneficiary of BTW Shiells Tag Rugby Event. The money raised from this fantastic action-packed event will enable us to support the many young people who have multiple sclerosis in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland has the second highest incidence of MS in the world and we are seeing increasing numbers of young people who have been diagnosed.

We simply could not offer any of our services without public support as we receive no government or statutory funding. Yet many people living with MS have complex needs and their quality of life depends upon these being met sensitively and professionally.

Action MS would like to thank BTWShiells for supporting our work by allowing us to benefit from this wonderful event.

Action MS wishes everyone involved a fun and successful tournament.

Keith says: “The combination of competitiveness and fun is what makes the event so special and we’re hoping as many people as possible will come along to enjoy the sport, cheer on their friends and generally enjoy the craic … all supporting a very worthy cause: Action MS!”
