It was on of those beautiful days. Bus journey down to Athlone, cool and sunny. Everybody was afraid we would not do well or there would be an upset and Malone would not do well. Quite the opposite. Malone were simply the best.Games management, adherence to the very simple basics. Pin your man, in defence pick a man each, focus on the ball not what they are trying to do with their feet. Again and again Malone concentrated and pushed the various opposition teams back right down to their own try line. Again and again opposition coaches shouted at their teams, “you better get out of there”, again and again Malone punished with power, with accuracy with foot work. In attack, unstoppable! They beat Trinity twice, beat Clontarf and various others. It was a case of who is next for the CREGAGH! Red Sox. All the players were outstanding. Talisman John was out for the semi and final with a shoulder knock but the side still progressed through. Malone played on Saturday against the best backs in Ireland and prevailed. These teams are supposed to be AIL 1a & b they are supposed to better than us. Malone and all of us show that we are great at this game and we want to show the world what we can do. Thanku Malone RFC for letting us photograph and film the best sevens rugby. The heart and the soul, the work and the skill, it was a beautiful day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
