Virginia RFC U11´s come from behind to win in Dundalk

The U11s travelled to Dundalk on Saturday morning for a hastily arranged fixture after the cancellation of their match against Portadown. Virginia started the match well with their pack being led by Rebecca Snell matching Dundalk up front. The visitors had all the territory and much of the possession but it was Dundalk who scored first with a breakaway try. Virginia again pressed the home side’s line, and clever play from Jason Henderson nearly put Tiarnan O’Reilly over but Dundalk held out. As the half approached the hosts gained more territory, and despite some brave defence from Sorcha Higgins and Robert Lochaden, they snuck over in the corner to lead 2-0 at half time.

The second half saw Louis Reeves and Conor Hetherton come on as subs, and Virginia really stepped up the pace at the breakdown. Cai Walker pressured every loose ball, and set up Ronan McKeown to pull one back for Virginia. The extra possession and space allowed Enda Maguire to set the backs free, and a great run up the wing by Aaron Kierans soon levelled the match. Virginia now were really on the front foot, and before long further trys from Michael Mckeown-Boyle and Amanda McQuade gave them a 4-2 lead. Dundalk regrouped though and broke away again to bring them back to within a score, but Virginia ended strongly, and after having one try disallowed, Evan Charters went over the line again to score, giving the visitors a deserved 5-3 victory.
