On Wednesday 16th November the rugby referees of Ulster are getting a double whammy at Shaw’s Bridge. Not only will there be a practical, on field coaching session on positioning from referees development guru David McHugh but also a chance for the society to welcome back Simon McDowell to the fold after his stint in New Zealand.
The on field session will see active referees being coached by ex international referee, David McHugh on one of the most important skill – positioning. He will be assisted by current Rabobank Pro 12 referee and Ulster development officer David Wilkinson.
After this, in the warmth of the clubhouse, Simon McDowell, fresh from New Zealand, will report back on the sights, sounds and circus of the Rugby World Cup. The members will have the chance to hear him speak and quiz him about his experience.
The society invites the media to come to Shaw’s Bridge on Wednesday to sample the coaching and expertise Ulster referees are being introduced to in the effort to improve the standard and consistency of our game.
The on field session begins at 7.30pm with the Simon McDowell talk afterwards in the Shaw’s Bridge clubhouse.
