Ulster Rugby has signed former Highlanders openside flanker, Tim Boys, on a short-term contract until the end of this season.

The 30-year old New Zealander played 46 Super Rugby matches for the Dunedin franchise between 2006 and 2013 and recently made his 100th appearance for his province, Southland.

He has represented New Zealand at U19 level and was top of the tackling charts in last season’s ITM Cup with 158 tackles in 11 matches.

Commenting on his move to Ulster, Boys said:

“It has always been an ambition of mine to play in the northern hemisphere, so when Ulster Rugby offered me the opportunity to join them on a short term contract I had no hesitation in saying yes.

“They are a top Irish province, with great facilities and a passionate fan base. I am looking forward to joining up with the rest of the Ulster players as soon as possible and working hard to help the team get a play-off place in the Guinness PRO12.”
