The 50 or so youngsters from Harberton Special School were delighted when Ulster stars Chris Henry and Dan Tuohy turned up at their coaching session on Thursday 29 March. Both players joined in with the games of tag and mini-rugby and had everyone enjoying their friendship and banter.
Thursday morning sessions have become a regular feature for the children from Harberton over the last couple of months. Instonians RFC have entered into an exciting partnership with Harberton to introduce the kids to rugby in a fun way. Yet they learn so much in terms of team play and skills development and everyone involved – children, teachers and coaches have had a great time. The weather has been very kind to us with each day being dry and mostly sunny.
Thanks must go to the Instonian volunteer coaches: Cameron Williams, Chris Mussen, Jonny and Shaun Potts, Stephen Ferguson, Zane Emerson, William Loan, David Rainey and Michael Pollock who gave up their Thursday mornings to get involved. Special thanks must go to Cameron Williams, the under 19 captain, who put a lot of effort into planning the sessions and visiting the school to meet the kids in advance.
We are now taking a couple of weeks break over Easter but aim to get going again in the summer term. It is hoped that this partnership between Harberton and Instonians will grow and become an important feature of club life. More volunteers are always welcome.
