5 Tyrone schools took part in the Ulster Branch Girls Schools Cup qualifier at Omagh recently. The 10 a side non contact rugby competition has been growing rapidly over the last few years and with the final being played at Ravenhill it gives girls new to the sport the opportunity for competitive matches and silverware.

Since the turn of the year sessions have been delivered by Ulster Branch Community Rugby Officers and Sport Northern Ireland Active Community Coaches to schools all over the province. Omagh Active Community Coach Chris McDowell brought Omagh Sacred Heart College , Omagh Academy , Drumragh Integrated College ,Omagh High and Aughnacloy College to the Campsie synthetic pitch and with most schools putting in 2 teams it made for an open and exciting competition.
Womens Development Officer Joy Sparkes and Community Rugby Officer Darren McGuigan were on hand to assist Chris with the event which saw Omagh Academy , Sacred Heart College and Drumragh Integrated College qualify for the Western Region finals.
