Latest from Tir Chonaill 21st Sept…
Tir Chonaill Mini Blitz Sat 24th: The club will host all other clubs in the county this coming Saturday at 10am in Carrickfin. This is the first county blitz of the new season and will give our Minis a chance to see how they stand after the Ulster Branch has changed the age eligibility rules for Mini and Youth rugby in line with the school term. We look forward to a great turnout and catering for our guests will be at pitchside. Please come along and see the kids skills as they try to emulate new heroes Sean O’Brien, Stephen Ferris et al.
Senior Rugby First Home Game: Tir Chonaill Seniors will this Saturday 24th play their first ever home league game at Carrickfin at 14.30. Following two away defeats, the first to StrabaneRFC going down 39 – 15, and the second in a punishing lesson by Armoy RFC 68 – 0, the home game offers all the players a chance to shine on home turf with these two difficult games under their belts.
For the Armoy game there were 5 players playing their first ever game, and TC welcomes them and applauds their efforts. Hopefully the team will be at full strength this Saturday and show what they can do. More players are always welcome, and training is on Monday and Wed at 7pm.
Youth Rugby : The newly formed Tir Chonaill U13 side had a good win at home to Letterkenny on Sat 10th, this is the previously successful U12 team moving up the ranks, and some stunning skills were on display including 2 tries from star man Tony Byrne. The U13s will hopefully play City of Derry on Wed 28th in Derry, well done and good luck for the season lads. As with seniors, more players are welcome, and training is on the same evenings as the seniors.
New CRO : The club welcomes the appointment of Shaun Doogan as club CRO following the restructuring of this function by the Ulster Branch. It is felt that a local CRO will more effectively promote rugby in the schools and hopefully bring many new players to the club. Shaun is a member of the TC senior squad and keen to pass on his passion for rugby. He will be visiting schools in the Rosses, Gweedore and Cloughaneely parishes in the near future to begin his duties. Any school or group seeking info call 07495 42406.
