Tir Chonaill Under 10s at Ravenhill :
A massive honour for Tir Chonaill and Finn Valley as the two newest clubs in Ireland were asked to play at half time in the recent Ulster v Connacht game at Ravenhill. The kids played in front of 7000 spectators who gave them a terrific reception. They will never forget the experience, and hopefully some will be further encouraged to go all the way and play there as professionals some day. Well done to everyone who was there, players, coaches, parents, and thanks to Ulster Rugby and Darren McGuigan for the privilege.
Mini Blitz :
The minis travelled to Finn Valley last Saturday for a county blitz. On a fine morning, it was a joy to behold the number of kids playing rugby. Congrats to Bernadette Sweeney on scoring her first try for the Under 12s in only her 2nd blitz. Having lost many of the experienced players to the U13s, this team did very well on the day, and some of the new players were superb. Congrats also to Captain Hugh Ferry for his amazing tackle count, and 4 try scrum half Ross Doogan. All our teams had a great morning with our friends at FinnValley.
Under 13 s :
The team continues to blaze a trail in their campaign, scoring a fine four tries to one home win over Omagh on Saturday last. Tries were from Cian Boyle (2), a stunner from Sean McCann, and one from Tony Byrne. Training for this group and indeed Under 15s is on Tuesday evenings at 6pm at Carrickfin. New players welcome, and the club hopes to have numbers for a full U15 team soon.
Seniors :
The seniors played away to Inishowen on Saturday last, and had a fine game against one of the league leaders. Despite going down 30 – 18, there was much to be encouraged about, and indeed the home team were very complimentary afterwards. Tries were from Bruce Vial and Benny McGarvey who also kicked the other points. Finally most of the squad were available on the same day, and the display bodes well for upcoming fixtures.
