What’s not to love …? Plus the new Love Selection, assembling nine best-loved flavours, inspired by the theme of love, for the one that you love. And yes, that can be you
Fudge Kitchen has a 35-year history of trailblazing. Of prolific, inspired product development and of partnering with likeminded artisan producers along the way, each as driven by quality, authenticity and innovation as they are.
Whether it is supplying their brittle to Kent neighbours, Simply Ice Cream, for their award-winning Peanut Brittle Ice Cream, or sourcing fresh whipping cream from a family dairy that hug their cows to keep them happy and enrich their cream, provenance, quality and integrity lies at the heart of every new Fudge Kitchen launch. And when that provenance, quality and integrity involves artisan-produced wines, ciders and spirits, they’re all the more principled!
Mixology Confection … Drawing on an embarrassment of award-winning products, innovative local producers, top notch ingredients, authentic production techniques (including a copper still called Patience), and some excitingly complex flavour combinations and subtle botanicals; all barely contained in rich, creamy fudge hand made by the doyens, what could go wrong?
Evidently nothing. As illustrated by the gorgeously boxed Mixology Confection launching for Summer 2017. Nine generous squares of fudge uncannily reproduce a confectionery cocktail cabinet ranging from the curious: Bitter Orange & Cubeb Gin, Juniper & Kaffir Lime Dry Gin, Chocolate Wine & Cherry, Strawberry Vanilla Vodka with Black Pepper, to the classic: Brandy Alexander, Whisky Mac, Special Reserve Cider, Irish Cream and Rum & Raisin. A perfect foodie’s Fathers’ Day gift and a great taster talking-point. Weight: 190g
RRP: £10 (plus P&P) Availability: www.fudgekitchen.co.uk (plus selected stockists) Gluten free and suitable for vegetarians.
Meet the Makers …
“We’re delighted to be working with Fudge Kitchen, a brand that shares so many of our values of high quality, authentic products that have been lovingly crafted”, says Andy Reason , co-founder of Anno Distillers, echoing the thoughts of all the producers involved, including Fudge Kitchen. “We love the blend of our gins with their delicious fudge, it certainly compliments our gin well.”
Anno Distillers, with the help of their beautiful copper still, Patience, “part of the Anno family,” magic 16 botanicals into five distinctive, smooth gins. Kent based, they are the first micro-distillery to distil gin in the county for 200 years and were started by PhD research and development chemists, Andy Reason (pictured right, above) and Norman Lewis. You’ll find their 60 Squared and London Dry gins making show-stopping guest appearances in Mixology’s Bitter Orange & Cubeb Gin and Juniper & Kaffir Lime Dry Gin .
Nip from the Hip is a Kentish family business set up by Alison and Paul Smith. It originated from the hip flasks of gin and vodka based liqueurs, made by Alison’s mother Joy, that were given to their wedding guests to steady nerves. Their contribution to the sweetly spicy Strawberry Vanilla Vodka with Black Pepper fudge is another marriage made in heaven.
Rubis is an indulgent blend of fortified tempranillo wine with notes of rich cherry, red fruit underpinned by premium dark chocolate. Sample a snifter in the selection’s Chocolate Wine & Cherry. Their production methods are a closely guarded secret, but, as Simon Davies, Rubis Head of Sales explains, “We take a high quality tempranillo wine from the La Mancha region of Spain, infuse it with Ghanaian cacao and fortify it with a neutral grain spirit.” A glorious after dinner digestif or cocktail base.
Biddenden Vineyard, Kent’s original commercial vineyard, prides itself on being a family run vineyard with the second and third generation of the Barnes family managing the estate. Alongside an array of award-winning English wines and local fruit juices, Biddenden is home to the famous range of Strong Kentish Ciders. Crafted using the Barnes’ family recipe, which has been perfected over the last 40 years, all its ciders are made from the juice of carefully selected culinary and dessert apples, giving the ciders a more wine like style. Biddenden Special Reserve cider is a dark, rich cider matured in an oak whisky cask for over 18 months, infusing the sneakily named Special Reserve Cider fudge with rich, appley notes..
“Working with local producers is close to the heart of our business,” says Julian Barnes, Managing Director of Biddenden Vineyards, “And our collaboration with Fudge Kitchen for the Mixology Collection is a demonstration of how incredible Kent is when it comes to producing top quality, innovative and tasty produce.”
Love Fudge Selection … It’ll be love at first bite with this lovely lot. And right the way through to the ninth, in fact, as you work your way through a Great Taste Award-bristling selection of Strawberries & Cream, Sea Salted Caramel, Chocolate Rose, Lime Cocoa, Stem Ginger, White Chocolate & Raspberry, Lavender Cream, Penuche and Double Trouble Chocolate.
And what’s not to love? Every piece is made from original, degree specific recipes, using only the finest, natural ingredients, locally sourced where possible – including lavender from Yorkshire Lavender, contacted through the York shop – and a skilled team of artisans has hand made and hand decorated each of these special little squares … whilst singing power ballads to them throughout, for that added injection of L-U-R-V-E.
