This Friday night will be the Annual Presidents Dinner at Ballyclare Rugby Club when the current President Willie Shaw will welcome fellow Presidents from other Clubs in Ulster which have had a long acquaintance with the Cloughan based club. Also attending will be the various officials from the host club. The Ballyclare club was the first in the province to organise a Presidents Night back in 1977 when Martin Armour was the Clare President–it was held in the original clubhouse Clareview on the Doagh Road with no more than a couple of dozen present–now it is attended by between sixty and eighty people ! That first Dinner was attended by two of the greats in Irish rugby from fifty years ago–Noel Henderson and Jack Kyle.
One of the features of the evening is that there are no set speeches but anyone who wishes to tell a story or do a bit of reminiscing is welcome to have the floor.
FIXTURE POSTPONED- Last saturday the only match scheduled at the Cloughan was the Junior League game between the Seconds and Cooke 2nds but due to the present waterlogged grounds it had to be called off. This Saturday the Seconds are to travel to Fivemiletown to play Clogher Valley 2nds in the Crawford Cup a tie that also had to be called off in early December. The 1st XV is contemplating playing a friendly possibly away to Clogher 1st XV away. The next league game for the 1st XV is at home to Enniskillen on 14th January when there will as usual be a pre match lunch.
