This weekend The University of Ulster Coleraine Rugby Club, welcome fellow North Coast rugby club Coleraine to Cromore Road for an occasion that will go down in history for both clubs.
UUC RFC face Coleraine in the 2nd round of the Junior Cup. This is the first time the two clubs have ever met in a competitive game, despite coming from the same area. The Students have worked hard in the last two seasons, coming from Qualifying Three to Qualifying Two and working hard to maintain their grasp in the league. This is the first time they have entered into the Junior cup and are pleased to have made it this far.
UUC Club Captain Jamie Wilkinson described the game as a “huge event” for the whole town. “Both teams are now playing an excellent standard of rugby. It’s great to think how far apart the teams used to be in class and we have come a long way, with all players working extremely hard in preparation for the game. We are major under dogs in this game but that’s the way we like it and hopefully come Saturday we will meet the challenge and secure a huge win for the club.”
The game promises to be a highly competitive affair with an excellent standard of rugby guaranteed. Both teams will have their eyes set on both the next round of the Junior Cup and the bragging rights of the North Coast. Kick off is at 2.30pm Saturday 16th October at the University grounds, Cromore Road at the sports pavilion. All spectators and supporters are welcome.
