EPCR puts French broadcasting rights for new European club rugby tournaments up for sale
For immediate release: Friday 30 May 2014
Issued by EPCR
European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) is the new international sports body responsible for organising the European Rugby Champions Cup and the European Rugby Challenge Cup. The EPCR is an association under Swiss law, and the head office is based in Neuchâtel.

EPCR’s founding accord was signed by the shareholder unions, federations and leagues on 10th April 2014. The accord secures the new format of the European club rugby tournaments for a minimum duration of eight seasons.

The EPCR’s Executive Committee today (Friday, 30th May 2014) issued a request to interested parties to tender for the broadcasting rights to the new European club rugby tournaments in France for four seasons – from the 2014/2015 season to the 2017/2018 season.

The tender bids will be for four distinct packages, with the stipulation that a party can only bid for one package.

Package A represents the first choice of a match in the European Rugby Champions Cup, from the pool stage to the final.

Package B represents all the remaining matches in the European Rugby Champions Cup, including the joint-broadcasting of the final.

Package C represents exclusive rights to all matches in the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Package D represents exclusive rights to the two European club rugby tournaments. According to the rules of the bid process, the awarding of Package D to a subscription broadcaster does not prevent a free-to-air broadcaster from winning the tender bid for Package A.

The bid process also provides for a total reserve price of €27 million (euro).

Interested parties must submit their bid on Wednesday 18th June 2014. No other communication regarding the tender process will be issued by EPCR before that date.

Any party which has not already received the tender request can contact the law firm of Jones Day (2 rue Saint-Florentin 75001 Paris) for application details.
