Teamwork for Oxford and Cambridge at Twickenham

With the Varsity match in its 134th year, Twickenham will see a few firsts that will make this an exciting time for all: for the first time in history, the women’s Varsity match will be held at the home of rugby; the team kit will be supplied by one sportswear brand for the first time; and Jamie Roberts, Wales and British & Irish centre will be playing for the Light Blues.

Jamie Warner, MD of STC Teamwear is excited to have been chosen to supply both Oxford and Cambridge rugby teams with their on- and off-pitch kit (pictured): “We’re delighted to be given this opportunity; to supply both of the Varsity teams is certainly a triumph for STC Teamwear. Having supplied many clubs, colleges and universities with sportswear and leisurewear across a huge range of sports, we were confident that we had the pedigree that the Varsity teams were looking for and we’re really pleased that we were chosen as the exclusive sportswear partner.” Jamie adds: “It’s a major frustration to many women’s sports teams that specifically-designed sportswear is not readily available. We’ve fought off some strong competition to supply all representative teams (20 in total), and are delighted that they’ll wear the STC brand of match play kit as well as pre- and post-match wear. We’re extremely proud to have designed the women’s teamwear, especially since it’s their first time playing the Varsity match at Twickenham, and we know that our women’s-fit designs helped us to win this fantastic contract.”

Ilyas Khan, Chairman of the Varsity Match Company Limited (which represents both University Rugby Clubs) explained their decision to choose STC Teamwear over the competition: “We are very pleased to have entered into the partnership with STC Teamwear who have a wonderfully competitive offering. We welcome the fact that Jamie (Warner, MD), is a devoted rugby fan, having played and coached at a senior level, and acknowledge that his enthusiasm for his business as well as his attention to detail in terms of the needs of our players is paramount. We look forward to building on this partnership and to seeing both the mens and the women’s teams entering Twickenham in the new STC Teamwear kit.”

Set to be an exciting match, Cambridge University have their work cut out, with Oxford University having won the last five Varsity matches; no team has ever won six times in a row. Cambridge announced in June that the Wales and British & Irish Lions centre, Jamie Roberts, will be playing for the Light Blues this year, having been accepted to do a Masters degree in medical science at Queens’ College and they’re hoping that Roberts will boost their chances of a win.

With pre-match and live match coverage by the BBC, and 30,000 supporters attending the Varsity game, STC Teamwear are looking forward to seeing their kit worn by two fantastic teams, on the pitch at Twickenham on 10th December. #battleoftheblues.
