Ensuring Safety for Gap Year Travellers with eSIMs

Leading retailer is offering peace of mind for youngsters and parents this summer

As students across the UK prepare to wind up their higher or further education and embark on gap year adventures, Sim Local, a leading travel SIM card and eSIM retailer, is dedicated to helping youngsters stay safe on their travels.

With an estimated 30,000 students deferring their education each year, according to data from university admissions service UCAS, and two in five citing independence as a primary reason for their travels, an eSIM can be an essential companion for gap year travellers.

Many gap year adventures are filled with exciting experiences, whether that be bungee jumping, all-night parties, biking or treks, and eSIMs
offer seamless and reliable connectivity throughout, ensuring young travellers can stay in touch with loved ones, access critical travel information, and navigate new environments safely without the burden of unreliable connections and exorbitant roaming charges.

To further support the safety of gap year travellers, Sim Local is offering a 20 percent discount on eSIM purchases. This plan includes 50GB of data, which doubles to 100GB if activated before October 9th, and can be used in multiple countries across Europe.

Sarah McGarr, Chief Digital Officer at Sim Local, said: “Our mission is to enhance the travel experience for students taking a gap year and keep them connected to home, giving them some reassurance and parents peace of mind.

“With our eSIMs, students can explore the world with the confidence that they can stay connected, informed and safe. We want to provide a service that not only supports their adventures but ensures they have a reliable lifeline in times of need.

“So we’re offering any gap year students travelling this summer 20 per cent off a Sim Local eSIM when they use the discount code GAPYEAR.”

Why an eSIM is essential for gap year adventures

According to Go Abroad, a search engine that helps people find travel programmes and opportunities, travelling can be life-changing at any age, but when young people travel, they discover more about who they want to be and how they want to show up in the world.

While doing so, keeping in touch with family and friends is crucial. Sim Local’s eSIMs provide easy, reliable connectivity by automatically tapping into the best local connectivity plans, no matter where in the world you are. This allows students to seamlessly share their experiences, coordinate travel plans, and seek assistance if needed. The ability to remain connected can provide peace of mind to both travellers and their families.

Additionally, in unfamiliar territories, access to local emergency services can be a lifeline. An eSIM ensures that students can quickly
connect with local authorities, healthcare providers, and other critical services regardless of their location.

From bustling cities to remote locales, having reliable internet access aids in navigation, accommodation bookings, and exploring local attractions. An eSIM facilitates quick access to maps, travel apps, translators, and essential information, helping travellers make informed decisions and avoid potentially risky situations.

Sarah said: “Solo and female travellers, in particular, face unique challenges to their sense of safety and peace of mind, especially in unfamiliar places. Enter the eSIM — a game-changer that’s simplifying the way we stay connected on the go.

“When abroad, this home-from-home connectivity can be a lifeline. Being able to use all those apps and services that keep us connected to information and people, no matter where we are, provides an extra layer of security and peace of mind that’s invaluable.”

This initiative aims to provide affordable and reliable communication solutions, ensuring that students can stay connected with their families and access important information while exploring new destinations.

In addition to this discount, Sim Local is also offering the current Orange plan for those travelling around Europe. This plan includes 50GB of data, which doubles to 100GB if activated before October 9th, and can be used in multiple countries across Europe. By combining the 20 percent discount for gap year travellers with the Orange promotion, Sim Local ensures young adventurers have comprehensive and cost-effective connectivity options. Full plan details can be found here. [2]

GET READY FOR A SGROPPINO SUMMER!
NIGELLA UNVEILS HER MUST-DRINK ICY COCKTAIL DESSERT

* Just in time for the heatwave, Nigella Lawson unveils her latest recipe with Ocado: The Sgroppino, an icy lemon dessert cocktail
* The Sgroppino blends Remeo lemon sorbet, vodka, and prosecco for a refreshingly zesty experience
* Three cooling ingredients that can be at the ready for when the hot weather takes us by surprise
* Full recipe available at www.ocado.com/nigella

As part of her ongoing partnership with online supermarket Ocado, Nigella Lawson has unveiled her latest summer inspired recipe: the Sgroppino.
The perfect tipple for the long-awaited heatwave, this icy lemon dessert cocktail hybrid blends the zesty tang of lemon sorbet with the kick of vodka and the fizz of prosecco.
“This is a very special drinkable dessert which you can whip up in mere moments,” Nigella explains. “Moreover, if you make sure to keep the sorbet and vodka stashed in the freezer, and the Prosecco in the fridge, you are ready to deliver near-instant delight to even unplanned guests, infusing last-minute gatherings with sunny spontaneity.”

Inspired by her passion for simple yet elegant recipes, and “a deep love for the Sgroppino (pronounced, give or take, ‘zgrrroppeeno’)”, having tasted this “divine concoction” for the first time when she lived in Italy when she was 19, Nigella’s recipe requires just three ingredients to achieve a light, frothy consistency, suggestive of a sophisticated slushy.
“This is about creating something heavenly with minimal effort,” Nigella emphasises. “It’s hard to convey exactly or adequately the wondrousness of a Sgroppino, for these three ingredients combine to create an icy froth that seems neither quite solid nor liquid, but the minute you take your first grateful gulp you will know exactly what I mean. More than a frozen cocktail or a drinkable dessert, a Sgroppino is heaven in a glass!”

For those eager to recreate the Sgroppino at home, the full recipe can be found here. For more Nigella inspiration, browse her favourite products and new finds in the Nigella Loves Ocado aisle.

KING CHARLES III’S ECO-VISION INSPIRES POLICY SHIFT

In the 1980s, despite skepticism from media like The Guardian, Prince Charles was unwavering in his environmental efforts, exemplified by his creation of a bottle bank at Buckingham Palace.
His commitment extended to speeches and correspondence with ministers on environmental preservation. In 2019, he launched the Sustainable Markets Initiative, underpinned by the ‘Terra Carta’ to encourage businesses to embrace nature’s power and innovation. Upon ascending the throne in September last year, King Charles III expressed his continued dedication to these deep-rooted environmental cau ses. King Charles III’s deep commitment to environmental sustainability was evident in 2013 when he established the Duchy Future Farming programme with the Soil Association. This initiative was designed to support and guide UK farmers and growers in researching and implementing organic farming methods. Additionally, he championed the use of compostable packaging in the company, pushing towards more sustainable, circular solutions in line with his environmental ethos.
King Charles III believes in nature’s unparalleled ability to recycle. This principle is actively practiced on his Sandringham estate, where compostable packaging and food waste are combined to create organic compost for the gardens. Similarly, at Highgrove, the head gardener uses discarded papers, food scraps, and garden waste to produce compost, further embodying the King’s commitment to sustainable practices. ”
