Rainey Endowed Junior Rugby Club was privileged to have a star guest at their end of season prize giving event. Ulster, Ireland and British Lions player Stevie Ferris joined the teams to provide advice and support during a number of demonstration matches. Following the on pitch activities Stevie signed kit and memorabilia for the players and provided some insight into the demands of professional rugby.
Stevie commented “I am delighted to come to Rainey to support the players and coaching staff in what I know has been a very successful season” Stevie continued “Given the size of Rainey school it is a great tribute to the players and coaches Mr Simpson and Mr Campbell that you have had such remarkable success” Stevie concluded by saying “With the help of your coaches I encourage you to keep training and developing your skills, I look forward to playing with you or possibly against you in the future!”
Mr Campbell thanked Stevie for taking the time to visit Magherafelt and offered the schools best wishes for his continued recovery from injury, which will hopefully allow him to compete successfully in the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
Following these activities the teams retired to Rainey Old Boys Club House for a meal and prize giving.
