On Saturday past Belfast Harlequins took on Glasgow Hawks in a training friendly. The teams played four 20 minute periods and used all their players with regular subs. Obviously the coaches were trying out alot of their options.

This game was also made more interesting by the close connection between player son both sides with atleast 3 Glasgow players being from Ulster and of a very high standard indeed. In fact the Glasgow Warriors would work very closely with the Hawks. As was likely some of the Quins players actually went ot eh same school as the Ulster player son the Hawks. Such is the standards of playing in Ulster that exiles pop on seriously good sides all over the world.

Glasgow Hawks kicking was poor but they scored 8 tries! – only 1 conversion. A decent crowd 100+ attended for the Belfast KO @ 2.30, the wind was not a factor, a heavy shower lasted a short while on an otherwise dry afternoon. As a result the pitch was slippy enough but in very good condition. Quins can see alot of potential for the coming season, they have a number of key players and some of their players had been called up to the ravens!

The game was played in very good spirit, the guys remained professional even though the intensity was clear to see.

Paddy Robinson and Michael Heaney had a very good game, Stephen Leckey sustained a suspected broken finger.

Well done to both teams and we look forward to supporting Quins in the coming season.
