Ballymoney Ladies won the first Silverware for Ballymoney RFC when they defeated Newry Ladies in a close final of the Ulster Development Sheild.
The girls have been training hard all season and have introduced a number of new players to the squad through new signing and the development of the youth system.
“It was a fantastic acheivement for the team to win the Development Sheild. We lost a number of squad players due to work, university and other committments so it is great to see the strength of rubgy in the area that we are able to produce such a good squad” stated Gill Powell after the win.
Coach John Hunter stated “The girls have been training hard since August and number are always strong even over the winter months. We are in the rebuilding process somewhat this year with a number of the squad new to rugby or coming up from our youth set up. The club has got behind us and the girls behind the club as they have tiressly supported fundraising events and even attended the odd bus trip! Thanks also to 1st XV player Ryan Clyde who has given his time to come out and assist training and his help has definatly benefited the team coming into the final”
Well done to the Ballymoney Ladies from all the club committee and members and hope this is only one off many acheivements to come for the team!
