A signed photo of the 1966 England football team, a Gran Corsa high specification bike and a gold plated Optimus Harmonica are just a few items being auctioned to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. The auction is now live and ends on Sunday 31st March.
The Sledgehammer Auction, featuring memorabilia and signed goods from the sporting and celebrity worlds, coincides with the final days of The Sledgehammer Fund, the charity’s major national awareness and fundraising drive fronted by comedian Bill Bailey.
As part of Prostate Cancer UK’s Charity of the Year partnership with Royal Mail Group, a number of items have been donated, including an enlargement of a stamp showing David Cameron outside Number 10 Downing Street signed by the Prime Minister, a Team GB Medal Winners Stamp Collection: The Official 2012 Compendium and a hi-vis Royal Mail jacket signed by the Emmerdale cast. Royal Mail will also match all funds raised through the auction.
The partnership with Royal Mail Group aims to raise £2 million, over 2 years, and help fund up to 50 specialist nurses – in turn helping around 44,000 more men. Prostate Cancer UK supports men with the disease, provides vital information and finds answers by funding research.
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “The Sledgehammer Auction is a fantastic opportunity to help raise the vital funds the charity needs to help more men survive prostate cancer and receive the support they deserve. Our thanks go to Royal Mail Group and everyone who donated items who have made this auction possible.”
All items will be available to bid for on eBay’s charity auction site: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/ebayforcharity/

About Prostate Cancer UK:
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in men in the UK. Over 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. Every hour 1 man dies from prostate cancer.
African Caribbean men are 3 times more likely to develop prostate cancer than white men of the same age.
Prostate Cancer UK fights to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. We support men and provide vital information. We find answers by funding research into causes and treatments. And we lead change, raising the profile of the disease and improving care. We believe that men deserve better.
Anyone concerned about prostate cancer can call Prostate Cancer UK’s confidential Helpline on 0800 074 8383 or visit or visit www.prostatecanceruk.org. The helpline is staffed by specialist nurses and open from 9am to 5pm on Monday to Friday and from 7 – 9pm on Wednesdays.
About The Sledgehammer Fund:
From January 1st until March 31st, Prostate Cancer UK is carrying out an assault on the public consciousness through The Sledgehammer Fund, which aims to increase awareness of prostate cancer and raise funds to crack it once and for all. Funds raised will help Prostate Cancer UK find answers by funding research; support men and provide vital information; and lead change, raising the profile of the disease and improving care. Comedian Bill Bailey is fronting the campaign and is appearing in a series of hard-hitting TV, digital and print adverts. To find out more please visit prostatecanceruk.org
