VIRGINA RFC NOTES

Virginia U18 Girls Retain Ulster Cup Title Two Years In A Row
Sunday last heralded the final game of the season for Virginia RFC when our under 18 girls met Monaghan RFC for the second year in a row in the Ulster U18 Cup. The conditions were ideal in Cloghervalley RFC for the Cup Final, and the many supporters who travelled to the game enjoyed an afternoon of brilliant sunshine and a great display of rugby from both teams.
From the kick off, Virginia were intent on retaining their title from last season and dominated throughout the match, running in six tries in the first half, two from Rachael McEnroe, and one each from Amanda McQuade, Ruth Gilsenan, Lisa Mullen and Ava Fannin, with five of the conversions kicked with ease by Lisa. Monaghan never gave up and were rewarded with two tries of their own with one conversion, leaving the score Virginia 40 – Monaghan 12 at the half time whistle.
The second half followed through with the same intensity from Virginia, and Amanda crossed over for her second try early of the match. Rachael followed with her hat-trick. Emma Ryan and Eimear McEnroe both added to their team’s score with some well-placed tries from both girls. Rachel was to add two more to her tally, and her final try followed a tackle just on the try line when she ended up on her back, but she was not to be denied her final glory and placed the ball backwards over her head to the cheers of all watching. Lisa’s kicking form added to a very convincing win for the Virginia girls with a final score of 78-12.
Well done to the all the girls who, not only retained the Ulster U18 Girls Cup for the second year in a row, but also won their third consecutive Ulster league title, and came a very credible second in the Leinster Premier league missing out by just one point to the Wicklow girls.
Enjoy well-deserved rest girls and see you all at the start of the new season.
