Ireland’s 2014 player of the year Andrew Trimble is set to miss out on World Cup selection when Joe Schmidt’s 31-man squad is announced on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Ulster winger missed this year’s Six Nations because of a toe injury but had returned to action.
Seven of his Ulster team-mates are believed to have been named, including Darren Cave who will be cover at centre for Robbie Henshaw and Jared Payne.
Tadhg Furlong of Leinster looks likely to be one of five props selected.
