– Keith Duffy’s Irish Autism Action and Irish Cancer Society receive donation –
Volkswagen, the Official Car Partner of the Leinster Rugby Team, today provided Keith Duffy with a cheque for €1000 for his charity Irish Autism Action and also €1000 to the Irish Cancer Society following the unusual challenge they set Leinster’s Kevin McLaughlin. Kevin was challenged to obtain 6,000 followers on twitter by March 31st to secure €2,000 for charity which would be generously donated by Volkswagen.
Much to their delight, Volkswagen announced Kevin’s success after a slow start which saw him with only 3,000 followers on Monday March 28th. With four days to go, fellow players, celebrities and friends got behind this unique initiative and began twittering and re-tweeting for the worthy cause.
Boyzone’s Keith Duffy was one celebrity in particular who in the final push, helped reach the impressive 6,000 target and following his success, Kevin announced Keith’s charity, Irish Autism Action, was to be one of the his chosen charities with the Irish Cancer Society to be his second. Keith Duffy and Naomi Fitzgibbon, Cancer Information Services Manager with The Irish Cancer Society as well as challenge breaker Kevin McLaughlin were on hand for the presentation of the cheque.
