Ulster Rugby heroes Chris Henry and Dan Tuohy are urging people to Celebrate & Give this Christmas by making a donation to Age NI instead of buying gifts or cards for family, friends or work colleagues. This is part of the charity’s spread the warmth campaign which aims to support people in later life to stay warm, well and in touch this winter.

Chris Henry said, ‘I am very happy to support Age NI’s Celebrate & Give campaign as the charity does great work for older people. It is very important to remember our older relatives, friends and neighbours especially during the colder winter months.’

Siobhan Casey, Director of Marketing at Age NI said, ‘Celebrate & Give is a positive and unique way of celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. At such an expensive and busy time of the year, many of us may waste money on well-meaning but unwanted cards, presents or ‘Secret Santa’ gifts which clutter homes, offices or end up in the recycling bin or charity shop in the New Year. Recent figures show a total of £1.7 billion unwanted gifts at Christmas alone! We can all do a little to make a big difference to the lives of older people by spreading the warmth during the festive season and throughout the winter months.’

Making a donation is simple – visit www.justgiving.com/age-ni and leave a festive message for your colleagues, family or friends. Jurys Inn Belfast is also supporting the charity’s first ever Celebrate & Give campaign. On 7 January one lucky winner will be chosen at random from all Celebrate & Give donations to win a 1 night stay including breakfast for 2 people sharing. To find out more about the campaign, please email fundraising@ageni.org, call 028 9024 5729 or visit www.ageni.org/celebrate.
