Rugby Bets: What Are They And How Do They Work?

Many people enjoy betting on rugby games and matches but there is still some confusion surrounding the different bets, what they mean, and how they work. There are two forms of rugby bets available; match and tournament, and we’ve decided to explain what they are below.

Match Bets

Match bets are the most common bets available when wagering on rugby and are usually done on single matches or games. Out of this group, the most popular bet is Match Result which essentially requires you to wager on the outcome of a game such as which team will win, which team will lose, or whether or not there will be a draw.

Another popular bet are Handicap bets which introduces a margin the team you’re betting on must overcome in order to win. This can include the number of points or goals won before the end of the game, or something entirely different. Similarly, a Winning Margin bet is another wager in which you bet that a team will win a match by a select number of points.

There’s also the First Scoring Play bet in which you wager on how the first score will occur, either as a penalty try, a drop goal, a penalty, or a try. A similar bet to this is First Try Scorer in which you wager on who you believe is the player to score the first try in the match, either in each half of the game or the first from each team.

All these betting types are available at most online bookmakers. In some cases, sports betting is even possible at online casinos. It’s not the norm, and usually, only modern casinos (here’s a list) offer both – casino games and betting – but if you find an operator that does, there are loads of advantages such as a single login for all gambling options.

Tournament Bets

Tournament bets are similar to match bets, but they span across multiple games and over longer competitions such as the Six Nations and more. The bets here are applied to all games or a series of games within a competition and you must be correct on all of them to successfully win. The most common bet here is the Tournament or Series Winner where you wager on the team you believe will win the competition.

There’s the Margin Of Victory bet where you must predict the final result of the competition including which team will win and by how many points or goals. This is arguably one of the most difficult bets to wager on which is suggested only to those who are more experienced or have a deeper knowledge of the various teams and players.

The two final bets are the Top Points Scorer where you wager on who you believe will score the most and the Top Try Scorer where you bet on the user you believe will take the most tries throughout the competition.

Is Rugby Betting Hard?

No! Although all of these different bets may be somewhat confusing, they’re all actually quite simple and users interested in betting on rugby will quickly understand it all. Regardless, it’s important to have a decent knowledge of the sport, the events, and the teams and players involved before placing any bets. It’s also important to research the various betting websites and find one that offers the best odds for rugby betting. And remember, if you do lose bets (And it will happen), remember to have fun!
