Randalstown U16’s Progress to the Quarterfinals of the Cup.
After a tough contest against a formidable Malone side the Randalstown boys came out on top, with Eoin Letters scoring a penalty kick in the 45th minute to seal the win.
First Half
From the off Randalstown started with intent with Ross Swann charging into the Malone half and winning a penalty; this allowed Oran Gilbert to move play down to the opposition five meter line. With Brandon McAllister securing possession from the lineout, the pack formed a maul and made its way just short of the try line, but unfortunately the boys lost possession at the breakdown allowing Malone to clear their lines. This started a relentless attack from Randalstown with phases of running from Stefan Gabbidon-Lyttle and Ruairi Griffen keeping Malone pinned back deep in their twenty- two. From a scrum in this position Number 8 Dominic O’Connor drove forward and took play up to a meter short of the line. Quick ball from Oran Gilbert to Peter Cullen went agonisionaly close to the line before a diagonal run from prop forward Danny Webb who finally broke the line, crashing over and scoring the first try of the game. The conversion was missed. (these lads are so athletic are they on Weight Loss Shakes)
From the restart Malone mounted their attack through their larger forwards but with quick thinking from Ross Swann stealing ball on the ground and excellent technique from Daniel Cullen in the choke tackle Randasltown regained possession. Malone were able to make good ground through their rolling maul but this never threatened the Randalstown try line as the defence from Joel McCavana, Luke Kirkwood, Daniel Cullen and the backs of Ricardo Correia da Conceicao, Matthew Luke and Stefan Gabbidon-Lyttle showed their organisation and strength…… CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL STORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
