Match Report
Lisburn1 v Limavady 1
Saturday, 26th September 2020
After such a long period without competitive rugby it was great to get the new season underway. Both Limavady sides travelled to Lisburn to take on their counterparts in theirrespective leagues. The conditions were excellent for open rugby and both gameswere played in a manner that rugby should be played in.
The 1st XV fixture started well for Limavady with two tries being scored in the first fifteen minutes. The catalyst for both of these scores was scrum half, Peter Wilson, when following two quick breaks he was able to offload to supporting players, firstly this year’s captain, Stuart Simpson and then to Jody McMurray to touch down. Peter converted both of these scores to give his side the early lead thatthey wanted. Lisburn then started to get into the game a bit more and wererewarded with a try of their own when left wing, Conor Gascoigne, touched downfollowing an excellent break from outhalf, Misi Bogitini. The only otherscoring in this half came from a penalty by Peter Wilson to give his side the half time advantage of 17.7
The second half also started well for Limavady when they secured another try. Matthew Haslett almost got in, in the corner but having been stopped just short he was able to get his pass away to Bob Lamberton who dived in. The all important bonus point try came soon after when following a strong break through the middle and an astute kick ahead by Stuart Morrow, flanker Benn Riley won the chase for the touch down. Conversion good from Peter. Lisburn continued to give of their best and managed to score a second try through their star player, outhalf Misi Bogitini when he managed to outstrip the Limavady defensive line and score in the corner. Following an offside infringement in midfield Limavady were next awarded a penalty which Peter slotted over. The moment of the match must surely have come when, with ten minutes remaining, prop, Clive Scott picked up a loose ball on the halfway line and sprinted in to score under the posts. Peter rounded off an excellent day with the boot when he slotted over the conversion. The final scoring came from Lisburn when their outside centre managed to get through the Limavady defensive line.
