Instonians do the job in league against Ballyclare
Instonians 21 – Ballyclare 7
Venue: Shaw’s Bridge
Weather: atrocious, strong wind and persistent rain
Date: 5 December 15
Instonians were by far the stronger and more inventive team throughout this Kukri Qualifying League 1 game at a very wet and windy Shaw’s Bridge. They will be disappointed that this advantage did not show better on the score board and, more importantly, in not registering a bonus point win.
Ballyclare kicked off the first half with a strong wind behind them. As soon as they got their hands on the ball again they kicked deep into the Instonian’s corner – a tactic that we thought we would see a lot of. Instonians won the lineout and mauled their way out of pressure. This set the scene with the Instonians pack demonstrating an early ascendancy. Three penalties in their favour later they found themselves with a kick at goal some 12 metres out and in front of the Ballyclare posts. Out-half Richard McCarthy kicked them into a 3-0 lead with 6 minutes gone.
