Carrick U 15 boys paid tribute in a minute’s silence to their friend and rugby playing colleague Ben Robinson who so tragically died early last week following a medallion rugby match last Saturday.
The Carrick club’s games lost much of their lustre in such circumstances but in response to this tragic accident the boys of Carrick played their part in the best possible spirit.
The game was only seconds old when Sam Wallace sprinted clear of the Donegal defence to score in the corner. Captain Jake Porter blasted over at the posts on 5 minutes for Wallace to convert. Callum Wilson was next on the score sheet when his pace set him free to score a fine try which Wallace converted. Wallace completed a great hatrick of tries when he scored twice in quick succession to send Carrick well clear after only 18 mins of play.
Neil Beggs had worked tirelessly with Cody Surgeoner and back row partner Jake Gardiner and it was no surprise that Beggs bruised the Donegal defence to score at the posts for Wallace to convert just on half –time.
H.T. 36-0
The relentless march of the Carrick Reds continued after the break and young Daniel McBurney scored his first try of the season with a searing break to the line. Wallace scored an amazing 4th before a great slight of hand put skipper Jake Porter in for his second of the game. Man of the match John Stewart finally got his just deserves by scoring after a fabulous mazy run. Wallace knocked over the extras.
Connor Cambridge having a great game at the base of the scrum delighted the crowd with an individual try worthy of any International game when he neatly beat 3 defenders and dashed to the line to massive applause.
Final Score Carrick 65 – 0 Donegal.

The coaches , management and boys of Carrickfergus R.F.C. U15 send their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Ben Robinson, to his teachers, school friends and to the entire community of Carrickfergus Grammar School.
