The countdown is on to the start of the new season and Randalstown RFC are busy preparing for their tournament next Saturday from 1 pm. Having run out joint winners last year the ‘Town outfit will have high hopes of placing both hands on the trophy this year.
The senior squad played a Rainey senior squad on Tuesday last in a controlled training match. This gave the coaching team the opportunity to look at the large squad currently at their disposal both from a performance and positional point of view. A further similar exercise will take place against a Queen’s squad on Saturday at The Dub.
The draw has been made for the tournament and the usual format will be followed. All normal 15 a side rules will apply.
Group games will be 10 minutes each way as will the semi-final and quarter final. The final will be 15 minutes each way.
Replacements may be used at any time but the referee’s permission must be sought for any substitution.
A yellow card will result in 3 minutes in the sin bin.
A red card will result in the offending player being disqualified for the remainder of the tournament.
Teams should report to the clubhouse no later than 12.30 pm on Saturday.
This year there are 2 sections with 4 teams competing in each.

Randalstown will kick off against Larne at 1.00 pm sharp on pitch 1 while Carrick play Academy on pitch 2. Full details are on the club website www.randalstownrfc.co.uk.
The winners of each section will take on the runners up of the opposite section in the semi-finals which are scheduled for 4.00pm with the final to take place at 4.30 pm.
The clubhouse will be open all afternoon and there will be food available from the BBQ. Randalstown RFC looks forward to welcoming old friends and new, and support for the teams is welcomed and encouraged for what is usually an entertaining afternoon’s rugby.
