Rainey OB II had little difficulty in beating Ards II by 18-0 in the Second Fifteen League in the Spring sunshine at Hatrick Park.

Hooker Heaney kicked them into an early lead and then sent centre Irvine in for a converted try. Ards seldom showed as Rainey enjoyed territorial supremacy and they had a real let-off on the stroke of half-time when second-row O’Kane straightened the line, but Irvine sought support from the inside with wing Andrews completely free on his outside.

Some good close range passing took Rainey forward again and Heaney broke from the tail of a lineout to score in the corner. Rainey wasted numerous opportunities to stretch the opposition when they had a player in the sin-bin by kicking too much and found themselves defending their own line for a spell until scrum-half Lennox broke upfield.
