Queens University RFC hosted the Conroy Cup, the annual Under 21 Irish Universities championship at the Dub Playing fields on Saturday with the hosts, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and University College Cork participating.
The tournament was run on a round robin basis with each team playing the others in games of 20 minutes each way.
All of the teams showed a great willingness to play open rugby and those present were lucky enough to witness a number of fine scoring movements. The home side however found it difficult to compete with their visitors as a result of call ups to other teams involved in league games and the fact that each of the other sides play together regularly in league competitions in their respective provinces.
The tournament was won by a very strong UCD squad which featured a high number of age group representative players and which managed to run up 77 points whilst not conceding a point in its three games.
