UUC v Limavady
Saturday 16th February 2019
After Cup activity last week Limavady returned to the league campaign when they travelled over the Coleraine mountain to take on near neighbours UUC. With Limavady striving for promotion and UUC struggling to avoid relegation this was a game that Limavady expected to win. It took only two minutes for Limavady to demonstrate the gap between the two sides. Captain, Jody McMurray broke UUC’s defensive line to score under the posts. UUC retaliated almost immediately with a try of their own when number eight, Ryan McKay, showed great strength to power his way over Limavady’s try line to level the scores. However as a contest this was as good as it would be for UUC. Limavady took the game by the scruff of the neck and proceeded to run in a further five tries before half time,- names on the scoreboard, Stuart Simpson, Jamie Millar, Johnny Lees and two from Daniel Irvine with Peter Wilson landing four successful conversions.

With the try bonus point already achieved and victory virtually guaranteed Limavady were able to play free of pressure and duly obliged to play some fine free flowing rugby. A further seven tries would follow. First up was Luke Montgomery when he was on hand to finish off some good work by Matthew Haslett. The next three tries were shared between Jody McMurray and Daniel Irvine as both players completed their hatricks. Stuart Roddy coming off the bench was able to add a further five points when he touched down in the corner. Jamie Millar, having just recently returned from injury, added his second try of the afternoon. The scoring was completed just in the final play when Peter Wilson spotted a gap in the home defence and sprinted clear before slipping an inside pass to the excellent Daniel Irvine to round off a very successful day for him personally and the team as a whole.
