Match Report

Carrickfergus v Limavady

Saturday, 1st February 2020

Limavady had a break from league action this week as they travelled to Carrickfergus in a Towns Cup fixture. Limavady were badly depleted with nine regular starters all missing for various reasons. This did not auger well as they were drawn against a First Division side away from home so even at full strength this would have been a tough fixture.

Right from the off Carrickfergus got the upper hand in the set pieces and this was to be the pattern for the complete game. In all Carrick scored eight tries, all but one of which, were from push over tries or rolling malls close to the line. Limavady fought bravely throughout and were awarded with a consolation try half way through the second half when Ben Riley managed to squeeze in. Try as they might for a second try Carrick were just too strong as they defended their line. They game ended 50.5 in Carrick’s favour.

Limavady have no game next week and then return to league action on 15th February when they travel to Ards in their pursuit of promotion this year. This game against Carrick will give the side a good example of what they will face in the top division of Junior rugby. In the meantime they just need to put Saturday’s game out of their minds as it was not a proper test with so many regulars missing.
