BLUEBULLS 16s 14 v FRIENDS SCHOOL 53 (report and pics below)
Dungannon Bluebulls faced Mark Henderson’s well drilled and disciplined side. The difference between the two sides came down to Friends firstly winning the battle of the ruck with their backrowers especially adept at getting over the ball in the ruck and secondly Friends ruthlessly taking their chances when Gannon gifted 5 tries to them from miskicks, missed tackles and offsides.
The referee (and rightly so) was taking no prisoners at the breakdown and continuously punished the Bluebulls for playing the ball on the ground, failing to roll away, failing to stay on feet and coming in from the side. We only had ourselves to blame.
We also made life difficult for ourselves in denying ourselves a proper warmup, stretch and prep because of late arrivals. Management have no doubt that this lack of prep cost the team some of the tries in the first third and the benefit of momentum from which confidence comes.
