Tour report – Bilbao 03/06 May 14

A heavyweight party of tourists spent the May Day Bank holiday weekend enjoying the cultural attractions of sunny Bilbao, before taking on the challenge of a game against the local rugby club Getzo.

Our hosts turned out a true vets team that was much appreciated by the Perennials.  Despite several phone calls to our supporters who manned the touch lines, their memories of who did the scoring were somewhat hazy, in fact I really mean they had not a clue, as the drink had kicked in by this early stage, so a brief summary of the match is as follows.

Our hosts were worthy winners by 8 tries to 4 and our highlight was a comeback in the final quarter by xxxxx xxxxxxxxx, who also scored a try. We have kept his identity a secret at present, in case his wife or medical team catch a glimpse of this on the web site.

As is custom and practice on tours to Spain and following in the footsteps of the late, great Maurice Megaghey in Barcelona, our vice captain David Elliott decided to test out the local hospital, where he learned that his ribs are not as solId as he thought.

A big thank must go to our hosts for their very generous hospitality and to our PresidentGeoff Goldsbrough for organising all aspects of the tour. His greatest achievement was getting 35 children to Bilbao and back again.

Roll on next season.
