Greenall’s The Original London Dry Gin has launched a new bottle design and packaging to celebrate its rich British heritage and the craftsmanship behind the brand. Established in 1761, Greenall’s is Britain’s first and original London Dry style gin and has been present to celebrate over 250 of Great British history. The bottle design draws inspiration from archives at G&J Distillers in Warrington, home of Greenall’s and the oldest gin distillers in England. The new design for award-winning Greenall’s The Original and the Greenall’s Wild Berry expression is available from May 2017.
Over the past two and a half centuries Greenall’s has featured in the gin palaces, kitchen cabinets, drinks trolleys, bars and supermarket shelves of Britain and the world. From landmark British celebrations, including 173 Grand National races and 36 royal weddings to the everyday traditions of summer bbq’s, and a well-deserved gin and tonic at the end of the day, Greenall’s has been served, savoured and made synonymous with the Great British spirit
Created by the forefather of gin, Thomas Dakin in 1761, his innovative and pioneering recipe for The Original London Dry introduced the people of Britain and the rest of the world to a smooth, clean tasting spirit; a salvation from the sweet, murky gins that were readily available at the time.
The new bottle’s shape and design is inspired by original gin bottles from the 1700’s and features premium embossing of the spirit’s birth date -1761- the signature of Edward Greenall and the Greenall’s crest – homage to the continuous quality and authenticity of the gin. A print of a hand-stitched Union Jack on the back (green for The Original and pink for Wild Berry), symbolizes the craftsmanship that goes into making Greenall’s, as well as its continued commitment to the original recipe.
The Original recipe remains unchanged and is kept a closely guarded secret, only ever known by 7 Master Distillers over 250 years. Joanne Moore, Greenall’s 7th Master Distiller is the current recipe’s guardian and one of the world’s first female Gin Masters.
Each batch of award winning Greenall’s gin is expertly handcrafted with 100% British wheat yielding a silky, smooth spirit with juniper-led taste infused with fresh citrus notes. Its eight botanicals are handpicked and sourced from across the world and include wild Tuscan juniper berries, delicate Moroccan coriander and zesty Spanish lemon peel. Only the finest botanicals are used to create Greenall’s London Dry Gin.
Greenall’s The Original makes the perfect classic gin and tonic, served with two slices of lime or can be enjoyed in cocktails such as a Greenall’s Lime Twist Martini or a Greenall’s Basil Smash. Greenall’s Wild Berry, infused with British blackberries and raspberries gives a classic gin and tonic a fruity boost or makes a delicious tasting berry gin cocktail, such as the Greenall’s Wild Berry Flora Dora.
Greenall’s is the proud national partner of The Jockey Club and is enjoyed by race-goers in celebratory moments across the country at some of the most iconic race grounds including Cheltenham, at the Cheltenham Festival, Epsom at the Derby and Aintree at the world famous Grand National to name but a few. A keen supporter of British talent, Greenall’s has also partnered with YCN (You Can Now), a creative network working with art students across the country on their student awards, which aim to shine a light on emerging creative excellence.
