Ophir RFC Annual 7-a-side Tournament Friday 15th/ Saturday 16th August 2014
The annual Ophir Rugby sevens tournament this year will be held over the weekend of the 15th/16th August at the Ophir RFC pitches, The Cottonmount, Mallusk. On Friday evening an u16s tournament will take place commencing at 6.30pm and on Saturday morning there will be an u18s tournament commencing 9.30am with the main tournament being held over the course of the afternoon commencing at 1pm.
This event has been held annually since 1974 as the traditional start of the Rugby season. This year we have the 3 competitions held over the course of the weekend culminating in the main competition with 12 teams competing for the title concluding at approx 5.30pm with the Mayor- representing the main event sponsor Newtownabbey Borough Council – presenting the winners with the Will Totten Memorial trophy.
Highly decorated teams which will have been previously in attendance include defending champions Queens university, Ballyclare RFC, Randlestown RFC, Acadamey RFC, Carrick RFC and many more!!
As well as the guarantee of a great weekends Rugby there will also be children’s entertainment, face painting and refreshments to make this a fabulous fun filled occasion for the entire family.
