Omagh RFC Mini’s P6 v Dungannon RFC: Mini Accies get the better of local rivals Dungannon Omagh RFC Mini’s P6 v Dungannon RFC – Sat 02.02.13

Omagh hosted Dungannon at Omagh Leisure Centre 3G pitch on Saturday morning. The boys warmed up by carrying out a series of passing and movement drills to get them ready for their games. With an excellent turnout from the boys Omagh were able to field 2 teams of 10, decided by the boys to be named the Pumas and the Sharks. In the 1st game Omagh ” Pumas” went behind to a well taken try from Dungannon. But this seemed to waken the boys from their slumber. Through quick passing and great use of space the ” Baby Accies” replied with 3 good tries from Jamie Wood, Joe Duff and from a barnstorming run from Philip Hegarty to score in the corner. Dungannon produced some good rugby and almost replied with a score of their own except for some ” demon tackling” from Robert Waugh, and great defensive work from Joel Smyth, Daniel McGarvey and Jack McMaster. Omagh finished off the game with another try from Philip Hegarty who was put beautifully into space with a defence splitting pass by the hard working Daniel Haigney in only his 2nd week playing.

In our 2nd game the Omagh ” Sharks ” took to the field to face Dungannon. Omagh got off to a great start with a try virtually from the tap off. Quick play from George Donnell and Colm Eccles saw the ball get to Joe Duff who showed great strength and speed to weave a mazy run through the Dungannon defence to score. Omagh continued to press the Dungannon line for most of the game with Scott Isherwood and Joe duff scoring 2 more tries. Dungannon continued to play good rugby but the Omagh Sharks held them out and could have increased their lead with more good driving play from Alex Clements, Jack Beattie and Alex Hamilton.

All the boys have started to put into play all the things that they have worked so hard on in training, namely passing, finding space and tackling. From Saturday’s performance it shows that all the boys have taken on board all the things their coaches have been teaching them. With training this coming Saturday morning the “Baby Accies” will have the chance to keep improving and hopefully have a fun time doing so. Remember “Stand Up For the Baby Accies”!!!!
