Omagh 3’s returned to winning ways at the weekend with a comprehensive victory over Coleraine 3’S on Saturday. Having previously posted Section 3 highest winning margin previously against the Hosts Omagh still took a strong side to Coleraine. With Kyle Alexander and Andrew Ferguson making the drop down due to regular players injury or unavailability. Kicking with the wind Omagh immediately put pressure on the home side, though it was clear that the festivities were bring out the rustiness in the Omagh side, it would be ten minutes before the Coleraine side faded and Andrew Ferguson snatched his first try after a series of impressive drives by the Omagh pack. Omagh then settled down and went back to the simple rugby that fared better against Bangor and Dromore, controlling the lineout with ease Richard Harpur did damage along the tram lines and with Joe Reid tackling any runner sent at him it wasn’t long until the tries started to come. Kyle Alexander and Keith Givens both crashing over via route one ball to make the score 21-0 at halftime to the visitors. Despite the score line this reflected that Omagh were clearly trying to get Christmas out of their system. The call was simple at half time, control the game and play simple rugby. With the second half Ian Scott, playing for the first time at out half, controlled the gain line well sending his hard running centres into gaps in the Coleraine defence, infact Omagh where to spend the next thirty minutes battering the Coleraine line even losing Paul Mellon to a nasty looking nose injury did little to stop wave after wave of Omagh attack, with tries coming for Joe Reid, Shane McLaughlin and another for Andrew Ferguson the home sides spirit was broken. Though they did finish strongly with a try of their own to finish the game 7 – 41. This was a strong victory by Omagh and showed how much they have developed over the past few games, with a bit more consistency they should be moving further up the Section 3 table. Omagh face top of the table Rainey OB 3’s in two weeks time who will provide a much sterner test than Coleraine.
