Omagh Mini’s travelled to Enniskillen RFC on Sat 14 April, to play Enniskillen’s mini’s in the last proper game of the season.

It was a superb day for the kids rugby and the boys thoroughly enjoyed their trip. For the first time this season the Under 9’s only fielded one team with only 9 boys arriving for the trip compared to the normal turnout of 20 plus however the boys as a result played a total of 4 x 10 minute periods and because of the low turnout all the boys played for the full 40 minutes.

It was a really competitive fixture with both teams playing really good attacking and defensive rugby. Enniskillen were the first to break the deadlock and they held their lead throughout the fixture. It was a credit to the Omagh boys who never let their heads drop and they remained competitive throughout. Strong defence from James Hawkes, Joel Smyth, and David Murray kept Enniskillen at bay and provided good turnover ball for Omagh to attack, however Enniskillen were equally as strong in defence and did not allow the Omagh boys to score. Jamie Wood, George Donnell, and Joseph Duff were tenacious all day and they combined well with Enda McCaffrey to keep Omagh well in the game. Enniskillen were to score again and it was as a result of Enniskillen’s better use of the ball by playing a really good passing game that their efforts were rewarded. Jack Beattie again showed glimpses of his pace but try as they might they could not breach the Enniskillen line. It was not until the closing stages of the tourney that the Omagh boys really showed their true skills and after a series of breaks from David Murray and Joe Duff, supported superbly by Jamie Wood and Philip Hegarty who ran their hearts out all day, that the ball popped out to Joel Smyth who made good ground and then fed Joe Duff who ran deep into the Enniskillen half and when finally stopped , the ever present Philip Hegarty was on hand to gather the ball, beat a couple of Enniskillen defenders and score a superb try.
Although the boys were beaten on the day, the entire team can feel proud of their play and continuous effort to finish off the season.
It is hoped this Saturday (21st) to hold a fun day for the Mini Rugby boys with some more unusual takes on rugby training and finish off with a BBQ to bring a close to the 2011/12 season. Timings and details to follow, however it is anticipated to begin @ the usual time of 1030 and finish around 1230, TBC.

Omagh U7 and U8s enjoyed their final match of the season in warm sunshine at Enniskillen on Saturday.
The boys and girls in both age groups can be rightly proud of the progress they have made this year. Roll on next season!!

Omagh U7 and U8s enjoyed their final match of the season in warm sunshine at Enniskillen on Saturday.

Omagh U8s proved too strong for their Enniskillen counterpart. Corey Wood came away with his usual collection of tries – just 5 on this occasion! Other scorers were Murchadh Duffy (1), Henry Dunbar (2) and Adam Quinn (2).

All in all it was a fine team performance with Evan Buchanan, Jason Havlin, Luke Spence, Charlie Dillon and Reece Braden all contributing to the result. Special mention must be made of Henry Dunbar and Adam Quinn who worked tirelessly the whole game making life very difficult for their opponents. Two good forwards in the making!!

Omagh U7s enjoyed an evenly matched contest with stalwarts Joel Armstrong, Harvey King and Adam Havlin to the fore. Sophie Alexander worked hard and David Murray has a very bright future in the game.
Jamie Lyons and the Donnell brothers, Tyler and Timothy also played their hearts out. Sam Beattie, Finn Murnaghan and Henry Thompson all played their part.

The boys and girls in both age groups can be rightly proud of the progress they have made this year. Roll on next season!!
