Olympic places at stake as series champion to be crowned at #Amsterdam7s

Three teams will book their places at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games this weekend during the final round of the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Amsterdam.With the series title race also to be decided at the two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday, it promises to be highly-competitive and compelling viewing.

New Zealand became the first women’s team to have secured their Rio 2016 place via the qualification system courtesy of reaching the quarter-finals in London last weekend, and are in an almost unassailable position at the top of the Series standings.

However, the race for Olympic qualification is still wide-open. Australia, Canada, France, USA, England (Team GB) and Russia can all still secure qualification through the series, avoiding the need to negotiate the regional qualifiers.

World Rugby Chairman Bernard Lapasset said: “We are set for a thrilling climax to the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series with the race for Rio 2016 places still wide open.

“The quality throughout the series has been outstanding and it’s a reflection of the strength of women’s rugby – one of the world’s fastest-growing team sports – that we still have six teams competing for three Olympic places as we head to the final round on Friday in Amsterdam.”

Matches get underway at the NRCA on Friday at midday (GMT +2) and at 10:00 on Saturday. Tickets for the tournament are still available and can be accessed here.
