Seahorse youth rugby at Instonians, Shawsbridge, is looking for rugby players in the 12-18 age range.
It caters for complete beginners to aspiring Ireland players.
If you want fun and a great time it is the place to be. Seahorses welcome boys from all backgrounds. It is the ideal place to make new friends as well as being part of a successful team.
Excellent coaching builds individual, team and life skills. Seahorses have four age grade squads – under13, under15, under17 and under19. Each squad has a team of experienced coaches, plus a number of specialist coaches.
In the season ahead the coaching team will be:
U19 Head coach: Brian Barrett, Assistant coach: Des Spratt – Coaching nights: Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7.30-9pm, league games Saturday afternoons.
U17 Head coach: Keith O’Donnell, Assistant coach: Glyn Moffitt –Coaching night: Thursday evening 7.30-9pm, league games Saturday mornings.
U15 Head coach: Gavin Youngs, Assistant coaches: Stephen Bell and Cameron Williams – Coaching night: Wednesday evening 7-8pm, league games Saturday morning.
U13 Head coach: Ross Ellerby, Assistant coach: Brian Hughes – Coaching night: Wednesday evening 7-8pm, leagues games Saturday mornings.
Specialist coaches:
Forwards – Clem Boyd Former Ulster and Bath Prop Forward
Kicking – Peter Russell Former Irish International and Ulster Outhalf
Strength and conditioning – Mark McDowell
Performance analysis – Jason Lear
Psychological skills – Bill Lockhart
This season Seahorses will have the benefit of a new Community Youth Officer, Brian Hughes. Brian has a strong pedigree as both a player and a coach. He has qualifications in sports science and is completing a Master’s degree in Sports Development and Coaching at the University of Ulster. Seahorses have robust child protection and anti-bullying policies and practices which are led by Owen Lambert – a principal social worker with expertise in child protection.
The grounds and facilities at Shawsbridge are first class, with easy access and excellent car parking. Parents are encouraged to become involved as volunteers and will be given training, should they wish to become involved.
