Wednesday night saw Match Five of the first round games take place in this years Nutty Krust Floodlit Tournament at Chambers Park . The encounter saw Malone U19s take on Randalstown U19s.

On what turned out to be a bitterly cold evening both teams served up an entertaining game of rugby with both sides showing their intent on moving the ball wide and playing an open and running game . Randalstown kicked off the proceedings and had the early pressure but a good attack from Malone after 5mins saw an early opening but some great defensive tackles by Randalstown prevented Malone from scoring

Malone had further chances with no 13 Gary Andrews making some good runs from centre midfield .Malone had a chance to open the scoring on 13 mins with a penalty but Lorcan McGillan attempt went wide . The opening score of the game went to Malone after and lineout and drive was held up short by some good defensive play by Randalstown ,and from the scrum the ball was moved wide and no 11 Jack McMurtry scored in the corner . The follow up kick was missed . Malone 5 Randalstown 0 . Randalstown responded and they were awarded a penalty on 22mins which was converted by no 15 Jamie Barron . A further penalty was awarded to Randalstown which was missed leaving the half time score 5-3 in Malone’s favour .

Malone had a chance to extend their lead early in the second half with a penalty but the kick was missed . The opening score of the second half went to Malone after a poor clearance kick by Randalstown who kicked away possession and Malone’s no 11 went over to score his second try of the game after 43 mins . The extra points were added by Lorcan McGillan 12 -3 to Malone .Great defence from Randalstown prevented further scores from Malone and as the half went on Randalstown came back into the game . A break by Town’s no 8 Shane McBurney nearly led to a score.Malone’s no 8 was sent off in the last five minutes of the game . Randalstown reward came when Shane McBurney went over to score in the dying minutes of the game. The conversion kick was missed and the final score was Malone 12 –Randalstown 8.
