Monaghan started the proceedings playing with a slight breeze behind them and the pack dominated the early encounters and should have opened the scoring when the ball was spread wide but a knock on lead to no try being scored. The first half was a free running game with both sides moving the ball wide. when able to do so . The Inst back line showed plenty of pace and a good move by no 10 Jonny Shivers came close to the Inst opening score. The Inst Full Back John Gilkinson had an impressive first half with a turn of speed from defence and some good kicking .On 15 mins Monaghan were reduced to 14 men after no 4 Chris May was yellow carded. During the sin binning of Monaghan no 4 Inst opened the scoring with a break from Callum Lyle and the try was finished off by the ever impressive Lewis Dugan The conversion was just wide . 5-0 to Inst. Inst continued to press for a further score before half time with the back line just coming up short . Half time score Inst 5 Monaghan 0 .
The second half saw Inst increase their lead with only 3 mins played with a score coming in the corner from Callum Lyle after a tap penalty . The extra points were converted with a fine kick by Cameron Williams .Monaghan had a chance to score on 45mins played when they had an overlap but he ball was dropped and there chance was missed . Inst stretched their lead further on 51 mins with a try from no 17 Jonathan Spratt rounding off another impressive back line move .The conversion was just wide . 17-0 to Inst. After some more fine running and slick passing by the Inst back line Lewis Dugan ran in for his second try of the game (68 mins). Again the conversion was just wide .
The final score was Inst 22 – Monaghan 0
