New Look CI Launches Youth Programme
Another chapter in the success story of CIYMS RFC will open in mid September with the re-launch of Youth Rugby at the Belmont Club. With a Senior section that holds its own with the best in Provincial rugby, and a Minis section that is the envy of Ulster, the next part of the jigsaw is to re-establish Youth Rugby and Convenor Phil Ashcroft reckons CI is well placed to do so.
Phil says “Having just installed state of the art floodlights, and with a superb clubhouse, we feel we have facilities that are second to none, and we hope that will be a strong factor in recruiting players. We have seen other clubs build up Youth Rugby through a determined effort and we are convinced we can do the same”.
The Youth set up at CI will be known as CI Barbarians, as Phil explains ” We want an ethos of open, running rugby that emphasises attack and enterprise, and as a number of our fixtures will be invitation games, at least initially, we felt Barbarians was the perfect title”
CI Barbarians will look to recruit players from both rugby playing and non-rugby playing backgrounds. A registration day will take place on Saturday 12th September at the Belmont clubhouse at 91 Circular Road – players and parents all welcome.
Coaching sessions will begin in late September and details will be posted on our the CIYMS Youth and Colts Rugby Facebook Page. There will also be a pre-match Parents Wine and Cheese event on 11th October at the clubhouse on 11th October prior to the Ireland v France World Cup group match.
