The book’s title, In The Flow, says it all. Consciousness is like a river in which the mind and body flow. They are integral parts of the unity of life….Water is the only substance which becomes less dense when frozen. Who enabled that to happen? The same creative force exists in us and that is why wounds of our mind and body can heal. It is all built in to us but we need to activate the healing potential we have been given. So read on and let Deborah Norris and In The Flow guide and coach you to your sea of life.

Mindfulness is the hot buzz word these days, with the Boston Red Sox practicing mindfulness in the locker room and Google teaching the practice to its employees. Now we know that “being in the flow” can help ease the struggles of life’s stresses. Mindfulness can help us thrive, not just survive, in this world. Think of mindfulness as one aspect of a lifelong journey toward being more accepting, less judgmental and kinder to yourself and others.
Neurobehavioral scientist Deborah Norris, Ph.D. ties together existing theories of brain science with her own exciting new theories on the science of mindfulness and how meditation alters our brains, in her new book, In the Flow: Bridging the Science and Practice of Mindfulness (Publication date: November 15, 2017). In this revised edition, Dr. Norris presents new evidence-based theories with far-reaching implications for how and why we practice meditation, and the role of mindfulness practices in healthcare. In The Flow isn’t just another how-to book on mindfulness, rather it explains in clear language how mindfulness relieves pain, inflammation and disease, heals the body, and how anyone can implement these practices for themselves.
Since 2009, many medical studies have proven to us that meditation can change our biochemistry, the structure of our brain, and even our genes. In Dr. Norris’ practice at The Mindfulness Center, and in her online programs, individuals have risen above their own diagnosis to wellness through mind-body exercises. On a personal level, Dr. Norris has experienced complete remission from fibromyalgia, and recovery from a traumatic brain injury through mindfulness practices including meditation, yoga, and related mind-body exercises.
Divided into three parts and twelve chapters, In the Flow guides the reader through a personal journey of implementing mindfulness practices in their life. Whether one wants to reduce stress, deal with a mental or physical health condition, relationship problems, career struggles or other life transition, readers will find a way to get “in the flow”. Dr. Norris explains the phenomenon occurring within our brains, as we experience these life-altering changes from reading her book.
In an interview, Dr. Norris would talk about:
• How to relieve stress using mindfulness practices
• How does a reader find the flow?
• Neuroplasticity, meditation and the brain
• The science of mindfulness
• Is multitasking bad for your brain?
• Epigenetics and mindfulness: How your mind can change your genes
• Meditation and health care: addiction; cancer care; heart disease; chronic pain, diabetes, etc.
• How is technology affecting us and our children?
• Sensing with the heart and the gut
• Pain management through meditation, breathing and bodily awareness
• Thalamic Gating and Expanding Consciousness
“There are many struggles along the journey of life, such as coping with stress, loss and grief, ill health, relationship problems, job stress, and other modern day issues,” says Deborah Norris Ph.D. “The truth is that there is a solution to these issues. We have found a resolution for the struggle. In the Flow describes the use of meditation to create a beautiful, thriving life—a life of contentment and ease, or perhaps the inspiration to take action for necessary change.”
In clear and captivating style, neurobehavioral scientist Dr. Deborah Norris reveals how simple practices are able to help remove roadblocks to health and happiness. Readers can get back “In the Flow” and live the life of their own choosing by identifying and using mindfulness practices that work for them.
