“Nathan had an accident whilst playing for the Under 17’s team on Sunday, 6th November at KRUFC playing against Bradford and Bingley team.
In this freak accident Nathan broke his neck. It’s left him paralyzed from the armpits down but he has movement in his arms and wrists. Nathan has no fine motor movement in his hands which means he cannot grip or pick up items.
Nathan is attending Physio and OT on a daily basis to help maintain and improve movement of his arms and legs. Nathan is having to re learn how to use his arms and hands for every day activities.
The progress is steady with Nathan but we can see the improvements all the time as he gets stronger as Nathan can now propell his wheelchair on his own for short distances.
Sitting here trying to say some words about my son Nathan, mmmm it’s difficult. Nathan is an absolute typical Gemini. He is lovely and sweet, the best shopping partner ever. Feed him every now and then, buy him something and he will carry your bags all the way round Meadow Hall without a moan! He doesn’t stress about anything – literally. However, where’s there is pleasure there is pain and his other side is not very nice. If he feels something is wrong he will say it’s wrong and argue the point but thankfully Nathan’s pleasant personality always wills out and he’s back to his usual laid back attitude.
Nathan is a strong individual that has kept the rest of us going. He really is an inspirational young man who makes everyone around him buzz! Even in a wheelchair he’s still kept the same momentum. He doesn’t seem to wain with his lovely addictive smile, cheeky grins and conspiring winks. Nathan is always up to something and keeps the nurses busy and laughing.
I know Nathan is going to be alright what ever the outcome, he’s a positive, strong willed, inspirational and very very loved young man who wins hearts and smiles and gives it all right back.
Nathan is our Big Man xx”
