MRFC U17s 52 – 31 LARNE IN CUP
We got our cup campaign off to a winning start on Sunday morning. Mon had to make some positional changes and they responded well due to lads not turning up or not letting coaches know. Larne were a big outfit and it took Mon a while to get settled into the game but when the forwards finally got going and took the a srum against the head, McGregor picked and drove at the Larne defence and quick ball from Metcalfe found the oncoming express train A. McPhillips and he broke through from inside his own half the 1st of his 6 tries. As the game went on, Mon started to carry good ball through A. McGorman, Emily, A. McKenna, McGregor and stand out forward D. McConkey. But it was McPhillips that stole the show with some great lines of running and speed. HT Mon 28 – 10 Larne. All Mon scores coming from McPhillips 4 trys 4 convs.
Larne started the 2nd half with a bit more urgency and bad Mon tackling and some great running from the Larne No. 9 which let him in for 3 conv. trys. But Mon fought back with good carries C. Graham, C. McGovern, McGregor and McConkey. Once again it was McPhillips who broke through and scored 2 more trys. Full back P. O’Neill had a good game with some great cover tackling and a great solo effort seen him get on the score sheet. After good picking and driving from the forwards, Breo back after his injury picked and drove across the Larne line to score in the corner. FT Mon 52 – 31 Larne.
All in all, it was a good performance from Mon, we just need to get our fitness and tackling sorted out. The lads that played out of position coped very well especially (Lomu) McDonald on the wing and R. Metcalfe at 9 had a good game.
Fitness training every Tuesday night at Gortakeegan @ 7.30pm and Thursday night at rugby club @ 7.00pm.

Monaghan CCRO Davy McGregor held a 2 day u10 mini camp on Mon 28th & Tues 29th Oct at MRFC for 6-10 year olds. CLICK HERE for action and team shots

It turned out to be a great success with up on 35 kids each morning. Davy would just like to thank all the coaches that came along and helped out and also the parents and kids that were present. There was great talent on show and hopefully all enjoyed themselves.
