It’s Back and even Better than last year. That’s the promise from the organisers of the fantastic May Bank Holiday Continental Market at Belfast City Hall. The magnificent setting of the City Hall will again be the location for this increasingly popular event. The Continental Market takes place from Friday 28th – Bank Holiday Monday 31st May 2010. Stalls will be open as follows:- Friday and Saturday 9am – 9pm, Sunday 1pm – 6pm, Bank Holiday Monday 10am – 7pm.
The highly acclaimed Continental Market will provide a truly International shopping experience with traders from France, Spain, Germany, Holland, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, Iran, Poland and the Finnish part of Lapland.
The event as always will feature some great new stalls including an Italian trader bringing the most amazing array of Italian nougat and cakes whilst shoppers will also be pleased to hear that some of their old favourites such as Dutch Plant seller Dirk van de Wardt will be attending.
Some of the other features of the Continental Market will include Karl Heinz from Germany with his traditional Round Stall (Schwenckegrille) selling Bratwurst Sausages and some delightful German beers to sell.
The May event will have a distinctly hot summer sizzle to it so visitors will certainly have the opportunity to chill with a glass of cool Champagne or Pimms with oodles of fruit, alternatively you sit back and enjoy one of a range of continental beers at one of the two large Continental Bar Areas and whilst standing at one of the two German Schwenkegrille’s helping to digest one of the gigantic Bratwurst Sausage.
Another big attraction is Julian Jimenez and his wonderful Paella, from Cordoba in Spain cooked to an old traditional family recipe, you can buy the paella and even a pan but don’t expect to get the recipe. Nearby will be Aaron with his much loved rare and exotic meats from around the world where you can try such delicacies as Kangaroo, Ostrich, Impala, Wild Boar, and an Aberdeen Angus Steak burger.
There will be cheeses from Holland, charcuterie, pates, rich biscuits and cakes from Brittany (Mdm LeMarec is a French Chef as is her partner who will bake fresh fruit pies and cakes at the stall) and Patrick LeMarchand cooking up a traditional although specialist dish from the mountain regions of France called Tartiflette made from Roblechon Cheese, Ham or Bacon, Onions, Cream and Potatoes.
Plus a wide range of olives from France, Greece and Italy, anchovies, dried fruits and nuts, and an array of delicacies from Greece, Fresh French tarts baked regularly through the day with a mouth watering array of topping, (one is never enough!) it really is a great taste of Europe.
On the non-food front there will be Leather goods with great leather handbags from Paris sold by M Poullain, bespoke belt making by Jean-Pierre Claude, Wood carvings to grace the home and garden, Parisian Fashion Items, Pashminas and Hats. A great choice of designer and costume jewellery from various parts of the world, as well as a extravagant selection of international crafts. Add to all of this the wonderful aromas of the specialist soaps from Marseille, Pot Pori and oils from Provence and it all adds to a great shopping experience tantalising every one of your senses touch, taste, smell and sound.
